IT: Chapter 2 Is Going To Be Even Scarier, According To The Director
IT became a surprise smash hit last fall when the Stephen King horror novel was translated to the big screen. Now, the director promises the sequel is going to take things to the next level. Speaking during a recent Warner Bros. panel at CinemaCon, director Andy Muschietti made it clear just how scary IT: Chapter 2 will be. It's going to be, "you better empty your bladder before it starts" scary. According to Muschietti...
It's going to be scarier and more intense, so bring your adult diapers to the movie theater.
Our own Sean O'Connell was in attendance at the panel when Andy Muschietti made his far from subtle declaration that the next chapter of IT is going to cause people to wet themselves in the theater. That's certainly a big claim, though, it's maybe a real possibility..
Horror movies, are not, generally speaking, mass box office hits as the genre tends to be somewhat niche. However, the first chapter of IT was a top 10 box office draw domestically last year and a top 15 movie globally. The plan had always been to make two movies out of Stephen King's massive tome, but it wasn't until the first movie became a hit that the second film was given the green light.
IT follows a group of friends living in Maine as they fight a demonic entity which takes the form of a circus clown. The first film followed the friends as children as they seemingly defeated Pennywise the clown. IT: Chapter 2 will see them reunite as adults to fight the monster once again.
Honestly, I'm not all that sure about the idea that IT: Chapter 2 will be "wet your pants" scary. While I thought IT was a great movie, one of the best of last year to be sure, I honestly didn't find it all that scary. Not to say that it didn't have scares, it surely did, but when put up against other horror movies I wouldn't say it's one of scariest, even if I would say it was one of the best.
Of course, that's not to say that IT: Chapter 2 can't amp up the scares in a big way and make the sequel utterly terrifying. It's certainly got a great piece of source material to draw on which helps.
IT: Chapter 2 is currently set for a fall 2019 release. All it needs is a cast. While a few names, like Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy and Bill Hader, have been rumored as strong contenders for a few of the main parts, nothing has been confirmed yet. However, with production likely set to begin in just a few months, those announcements will likely be coming soon.
The Director becomes even more mortified when John walks in, falls to his knees, and calls him "father," a word filled with embarrassing meaning. All the workers begin laughing until the Director finally runs out of the room. Analysis: This chapter uses contrast to emphasize the rising tension of the novel.
