People On The Internet Are Blaming Godzilla For Japanese Island Disappearance

An incredibly odd occurrence off the coast of Japan has people wondering if a giant lizard might be to blame. A small uninhabited land mass 500 meters off the coast of a small fishing village named Sarufutsu has seemingly completely vanished from the ocean. The complete destruction of a Japanese landmass? There's really only one reason something like that could happen. Godzilla.

It seems that recently, a small island that used to be visible off Japan no longer is. This is causing some to go "search" for the island in order to see what happened. Apparently, a Japanese author who once produced a book about Japanese islands noticed that the spot, called Esanbehanakitakojima, didn't seem to be there anymore. Residents of the fishing village seemed to confirm that while they could previously see it from the shore, they no longer could.

While some seem to be blaming constant erosion from wind, or rising sea levels caused by climate change, others have a more insidious theory. Japan's largest contribution to pop culture, Godzilla.

From a geographic perspective, the island is actually important as CNN reports it used to mark the northern border of Japan. With it no longer really there, there could be disputes about where Japan's sovereign territory ends and Russia's starts.

The Godzilla theory is an especially fun one as November 3 marked the anniversary of the wide release of the original Godzilla movie in Japan, and is recognized in the island nation as the character's birthday. Perhaps he took the opportunity of the anniversary to reward himself with a little snack.

Of course, there are other theories about what may have happened to the island. If it wasn't Godzilla, then clearly it was a James Bond villain or some other nefarious evil mastermind showing off the awesome power of his super island destroying death ray.

As officials begin their search for the missing island, I certainly hope they find it. It should be right where they left it, just under the surface of the water. The last time the island was surveyed, several decades ago, it was apparently only a few feet above sea level, so the fact that it's gone from view shouldn't honestly be all that shocking.

Of course, if they can't find it where it should be, we'll have to start wondering just what Godzilla has been up to. If they can't locate the giant lizard, they should be able to catch him during the upcoming press tour of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the new film starring the kaiju beast that will hit theaters in May.

The One Mistake Disney Admits It Has Made With Star Wars, According To Bob Iger

Star Wars fans can't complain that they don't have enough content in this universe nowadays. Before the Prequels, Star Wars went through a bit of a drought. For while stories were being churned out in novels and comic books, there were no movies or TV shows to scratch that Star Wars itch. Now, however, there might be too much Star Wars, and Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger takes complete blame for that misstep in a candid new interview. When stepping back and looking at the big picture of Star Wars, Iger admits:

As I look back, I think the mistake that I made --- I take the blame --- was a little too much, too fast. You can expect some slowdown, but that doesn't mean we're not gonna make films. J.J. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. We have creative entities, including [David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss, who are developing sagas of their own, which we haven't been specific about. And we are just at the point where we're gonna start making decisions about what comes next after J.J.'s. But I think we're gonna be a little bit more careful about volume and timing. And the buck stops here on that.

Bob Iger was speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, touching on all issues that are important to the media giant, including the new streaming service, the Fox acquisition, and the major brands in play at Disney. And when it came to Star Wars, THR asked if there is going to be a slow down of production on the upcoming movies, seeing as how Solo: A Star Wars Story underperformed, by every metric.

The unspoken thought regarding Star Wars is that Disney eventually wanted to get to a point where they were catching up with Marvel Studios and potentially releasing two Star Wars movies a year -- one in May and one in December, ideally. This feeds into the narrative that Solo: A Star Wars Story kept its May release, even though Ron Howard probably could have used more time in post-production, because Disney wanted to see how a Star Wars movie could perform in May. You'd assume that a Star Wars movie could open on ANY weekend, but one criticism leveled at Solo is that it came out too soon after Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi... a sequel that some fans have rejected.

So, Star Wars isn't bulletproof, and Bob Iger is admitting that Disney has learned that they can't just churn out any old Star Wars story and expect the fan base to show up and toss money at it. Quality still matters, so the Disney CEO says they are going to go back and think about what's coming AFTER J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode IX concludes the new trilogy that was launched with The Force Awakens.

A number of projects are on the radar. In addition to the Benioff and Weiss saga, Rian Johnson has a series of stories he's developing for the film side, and Jon Favreau has a Star Wars story he's bringing to the streaming service. Dave Filoni is bringing The Clone Wars back to the animated side for Star Wars Resistance. There's a Boba Fett movie in the ether. And Ewan McGregor is ready to play Obi-wan, if anyone will call him. We'll be covering Star Wars for the foreseeable future, but it's refreshing to hear Bob Iger admit that Disney might have put its cart before its horse, and it's pumping its brakes ever so slightly on all of these stories set in a galaxy far, far away.

Men In Black Internationals Ending Should Have Gone In A Different Direction

Warning: SPOILERS for Men In Black International are in play. If you havent seen the film, turn around and come back once youve caught up.

Men In Black International was supposed to be a big step in a new direction for the legendary sci-fi/comedy series. A big step that, depending on who you talk to, had plenty of issues. Which is only fitting because by time the film wraps, we learn that the Men In Black themselves have a bit of a problem within their own ranks, as a traitorous mole almost wipes out the Earth.

Of course, Tessa Thompsons Agent M and Chris Hemsworths Agent H unmask Liam Neesons High T as the villain, take him out with the greatest weapon in the galaxy, and go back to their jobs in the ranks of the MIB. Only, Agent H actually gets promotes to the head of the London bureau, because High T wanted it that way.

That decision might be the biggest mistake in the Men In Black franchise, but it's definitely the biggest misstep in Men In Black International. It screws with the films story and messes with the prospect for future films, as it not only takes Agent H out of commission as a field agent, it asks a lot of questions about the Men In Black organization in general.

Agent H Still Feels Too Inexperienced To Be A Supervising AgentWell just get the most obvious problem out of the way first. In his grand feat of heroism, later exposed as a fraudulent happening, Agent H and High T supposedly defeated The Hive at the Eiffel Tower. Commemorated in a stylish portrait that T keeps in his office, its flanked by only one other portrait: Agents J and K taking down Edgar at the former site of the New York Worlds Fair in Queens. Both are pretty big accomplishments at face value, but certainly not on a level to give someone this big of a promotion.

Giving Agent H head of section at MIB London is like putting Agent J in charge the moment Zed vacated his seat as MIB New Yorks section chief. But even if that had happened in Men In Black 3, the film that put Emma Thompsons incredibly sharp O in charge of the New York branch, there was a 15 year gap between those events, and Agent J proved himself as capable. There was only a three year gap between the Paris incident and Men In Black Internationals contemporary-set adventure, and in these three years, Agent H has been slacking.

Even Returning To His Former Self, Agent H Has Some Lost Time To Make UpOnly getting the position as head of the MIB London branch because High T left specific instructions to do so, Agent H still has to answer for the fact that hes been under an alien influence that turned him into the slacker field agent hed been known to be since the Paris incident of 2016. While three years isnt too much time to make up for, theres still a questionable gape in Hs service record, which should immediately disqualify him for any sort of promotion.

While hes still just a probationary head of MIB London, and that decision would most likely be revoked before a hypothetical Men In Black International sequel, its still a bad move. Even if hes only temporarily overseeing MIB London, Agent H isnt exactly an agent who is the pillar of respect, especially after coasting on his accomplishments for three years. Though even if he wasnt slouching and given this opportunity for promotion validly, the fact still remains that Agent H is more of a field agent, especially with his capable new partner offering a proper foil to his exploits.

Agent H Belongs In The Field With Agent MTaking away the case of Agent Hs abilities as a Men In Black operative, its still pretty clear that hes best used as a field agent in MIB Londons ranks. Even in his lesser skilled mode of working through Men In Black Internationals crisis, you can see that field work is his definitely in his skill set. Quick witted, ready with a plan, and easily gliding through his environments, H is pretty capable in field action; especially now that he has Agent M by his side.

M compliments Hs flash and style with hard thought and complimentary energy. While H has the plans and the impetus to move forward with them, M is the brains of the operation who can inform their decision making process with the required knowledge. Theyre a hell of a team together, and it already feels like a bad idea to break them apart at the end of Men In Black International. Doing so for a management position is even worse of an idea, especially when theres one particular agent that should have gotten the position without question.

Agent C Is Way More Qualified For Head Of SectionSet up as a red herring for the potential mole of Men In Black International, Rafe Spalls Agent C seems like a regulatory nightmare when it comes to the actions of our heroes throughout the film. Hes the type that knows the handbook back and forth, and is a stickler for the rules that are part of being a Men In Black operative. But as it turns out, hes not some evil presence trying to stick it to Agent H and Agent M for the hell of it, hes doing it because he believes in those rules. And Agent O, despite being wise and seeing everything going on in MIB London, is still okay with Agent H getting the top slot.

That is precisely the person you want in charge of the Men In Black International lot. Agent Cs actions arent meant to harm anyone, theyre by book. And if your field agents are going to skip the rules and operate outside of the lines, someone needs to know when to let them loose and when to keep them in line. Agent C is that type of person, who definitely could learn to loosen up a bit, but very easily could run the organization in a way that doesnt compromise the planet or its defenses.

Ultimately, rebuking Agent Hs promotion as probationary head of MIB London isnt meant to slam him as an ineffective agent. The man didnt get to where he is today by merely being a doofus. But giving him the top slot, merely because his boss said so, is an egregious error that should have been called out by Agent O at the end of Men In Black International.

It doesnt look like well be getting a sequel to this film anytime soon, as the troubles that the film had behind the scenes seem to have spilled over into the films theatrical release. But if this story is to continue, there are some decisions that should be questioned to the fullest extent of continuing the Men In Black story, and the greatest concern is giving Agent H the top slot at MIB London.

Men In Black International is in theaters now, but if youre looking for a new adventure into the multiplex, the 2019 release schedule is going to be your best bet for finding that next round of excitement.
