As Maleficent 2 Wraps Filming, Director Shares Photos From The Set

The current trend of successful Disney live-action remakes began with Maleficent and now the sequel is closer to a reality than ever before. Joachim Rnning, the director of the forthcoming sequel, recently announced that principal photography has wrapped on Maleficent 2 with a glorious picture of everybody who helped make the movie a reality. Check it out.

The crew are always the unsung heroes on any movie production as few of them ever get recognized unless they get nominated for awards. This shows just how many people were involved in making this film a reality and it's nice of Joachim Rnning to give them a moment in the sun and thank them for their hard work.

Now, Maleficient 2 will be handed off to another group of people who likely aren't even in this photo, the post-production team who handle things like digital effects, and the editing of all the shot footage into a coherent story. Exactly what that story is, is a little vague at this point. The official plot synopsis simply states that Maleficent and Aurora will find themselves working together in an attempt to protect the magical creatures that live inside the moors. We do not who they need protection from, as Ed Skrein has reportedly been cast as the villain, though exactly who his character is still being kept under wraps.

The cast image follows on another picture that Joachim Rnning posted to Instagram a few days ago. He knew the end was in sight, which was too bad because it looks like the place he got to work in Pinewood Studios in London was pretty damn impressive. A look at his monitors is carefully designed to hide anything interesting behind clapperboards, though it does reveal an apparent logo for Maleficent 2, an image which appears to be the wings that Angelina Jolie's character lost in the first film.

While Disney had turned other animated classics into live-action films before, it was really the success of Maleficent that launched the studio's trend that has since resulted in new versions of The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, and most recently, Christopher Robin. New versions of Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King are planned for next year before Maleficent 2 arrives in May of 2020.

5 Podcasts Every Movie Fan Needs To Check Out

Back in the day, there was Siskel & Ebert, and very few other places to get informed movie talk on any sort of airwaves. The Chicago-based film critics probably didn't realize it at the time, but their fledgling television program -- which eventually became a syndicated staple in the homes of movie lovers -- was the launch pad for the flood of movie-related outlets that we currently have at our fingertips.

Nowadays, no matter your taste or preference, there's a movie podcast that meets your needs. Most are fascinating. Some are better than the rest. We recently discovered This Movie Changed Me, a podcast that interviews film fans about the feature that completely altered their existence. We all have a movie we can point to that turned on the proverbial light, and turned us from "casual audience member" to "avid movie fanatic." (Mine would be the first Die Hard movie.) The Top 10 ShowMuch like Kevin Smith and his SModcast, the Schmoes Know network has become a one-stop shop for all different types of movie-related content on the web. The Top 10 Show covers several different topics, going deep into specific genres to -- as the title suggests -- piece together a Top 10 list. Pixar movies? Got it. Stephen King flicks? They got you covered. But the fun really starts when lively co-hosts John Rocha and Matt Knost enter the Thunderdome to really dissect a supposed genre classic, from First Blood to Pulp Fiction. Knights Of Ren Confirmed For Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens we were introduced to a collection of apparently villainous characters called the Knights of Ren. We witnessed them standing in the rain outside of Luke Skywalker's burning Jedi temple, and then, they were gone. We've never seen or heard a word about them since Rey's flashback in the first film of the new trilogy, but now a new report confirms that the Knights of Ren will return in for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Rumors had been swirling that the Knights would be back for the final film of the trilogy, and the characters were even spottted in a supposedly leaked poster image, but a new Vanity Fair article confirms the Knights will play a part, and even shows the characters off. The Knights of Ren are described as wearing mismatched armor with oversized arsenals of weapons. Whereas the rest of the First Order looks sleek and ordered, the Knights of Ren are put together in a much more haphazard fashion.

The article also confirms that the one good shot that we received of Kylo Ren in the Rise of Skywalker teaser trailer shows him taking down one of the Knights of Ren.

Of course, the fact that Kylo Ren is attacking the Knights of Ren in this shot creates more questions than answers. Is this a flashback? Is the reason we have't seen the Knights of Ren before because they're all dead? Does this mean Ben Solo is going to turn to the light side after all and attack those that he was previously aligned with? Does this mean the Knights of Ren have turned to the light and Kylo Ren is fighting them for that reason?

While it is now confirmed that the Knights of Ren will appear in the new film, no details are being given regarding how they're being used, so your guess is as good as mine. Where have they been all this time and why are they back now? We'll find out in December I guess. One rumor has indicated the Knights have been busy elsewhere over the course of the previous two films.

A great deal will have changed for Kylo Ren when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker starts. He will, one assumes, have been ruling over the First Order alone for the year that has passed since The Last Jedi. How this has changed him and his relationship with these characters, is certainly an interesting question.

Since the Knights of Ren have never been anything more than a name and an image before, we have really no idea what to expect from them in the new film. Even the books and and other Star Wars material that has been released in the last few years has remained remarkably quiet on the Knights of Ren. They may not end up being anybody particularly special or they could end up becoming some of the most popular new characters of the new trilogy. We'll find out December 20.
