Yes, The Walking Dead's Chandler Riggs Auditioned For Spider-Man In The MCU

Way back before Tom Holland landed his career-changing role as the Spider-Man of the MCU, dozens upon dozens of young actors filled audition rooms hoping to be the lucky one to land the part. The search was exhaustive and while the role eventually went with the really good choice of Holland, plenty of other promising actors had their names in the hat. One of these people was Chandler Riggs, who is perhaps better known as Carl from The Walking Dead. Riggs recently re-confirmed that he had auditioned for the role and doesn't seem too broken up about how things turned out.

I thought Spider-Man would be pretty cool, I auditioned for that a few years ago. But Tom Holland is such an incredible actor, and he's so funny.

Chandler Riggs' days as Carl on The Walking Dead may be over, but his conference appearances will never end. During an audience Q&A at Walker Stalker Con in Nashville, Tennessee (via ComicBook), Riggs was asked what Marvel superhero he'd want to play. The actor has a bit more free time on his hands now that his character has been killed off the long-running zombie show, so is he interested in nailing an extensive blockbuster contract? He didn't really have an answer as to what specific character he'd want, but he already did try his hand at Spider-Man. Obviously, that went to Tumblr's favorite crush Tom Holland, and Riggs doesn't seem to have any hard feelings over it. Rejection is the life of an actor!

Chandler Riggs wasn't the only actor who auditioned for the part of Spider-Man after the character was rebooted following Amazing Spider-Man 2. Asa Butterfield, Charlie Plummer, and Mathew Lintz were all reportedly frontrunners for the part alongside Tom Holland. Due to the specific circumstances involving this version of the character finally joining the MCU, this audition race got a ton of media attention, but in the end, Holland came out the winner. Now it's hard to picture anyone else in the role.

Apparently, Riggs also tried out for the role of young Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which was itself an exhaustive search to find just the right actor. It might be a good thing Riggs didn't get that one (not many people can compare to Harrison Ford in his prime), but it looks like the actor is interested in pursuing all opportunities that come his way.

Chandler Riggs may yet get to play a superhero or blockbuster role yet, but in the meantime, you can still see Spider-Man in action in Avengers: Infinity War, in theaters right now.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn't part of any big cinematic universe, but that doesn't mean fans aren't excited for it. And if, for some reason, you're not excited for Into the Spider-Verse, you should probably start getting excited because the first reactions to the new movie are here and they couldn't be more glowing. Not only is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse a great Spider-Man movie, but I think it's the BEST Spider-Man movie. A super inventive & visually stunning action-adventure about a kid learning to be a hero from a man who forgot how to be one. It is outstanding!

While not every Spider-Man movie that's come before has been great, there have been some that have been, well, amazing, spectacular even, so to say that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the best of them is high praise indeed. Not to be outdone, Slashfilm's Peter Sciretta says that the animated Spider-Man adventure succeeds in being both the best animated movie of the year and the best superhero movie of the year.

Spider-man: Into The Spider-Verse is not only the best animated feature and best comic book movie this year, but one of the best movies of 2018 period. I don't think another movie does a better job of bringing a comic book to life on the big screen.

That puts Into the Spider-Verse ahead of some very well regarded films, everything from Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War to Ralph Breaks the Internet and Incredibles 2, which is also a movie that qualifies as both an animated and a superhero movie.

And the praise just keeps coming. Dani Fernandez is one of several people who seems to have come out of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse with a passion bordering on obsession. It seems that whatever you might want out of your comic book movies, this one has it.

I'm obsessed. It didnt feel like anything else. All the animation styles coming together was insane. Miles is EVERYTHING. Humor. Heart. Vulnerability. Courage. The hero we need.

Into the Spider-Verse seems to be putting a cap on what has been a solid year for animation. Both Disney and Pixar saw major releases this year, and both were well regarded, but it seems that Sony has somehow found a way to top them both, according to Mark Pacisat Nerd Reactor.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is hilarious, emotional and just so damn entertaining. Who knew that in a year when both Disney and Pixar release quality films that Spider-Verse would top them to become the best animated film of the year. It's that good.

Normally, this is the part of the roundup where I say, "while most people love this movie, there are a few people who don't agree." However, when it comes to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, I can't currently say that. As of this writing, the film is sitting at 100% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and searching social media I'm not finding a single response that's even lukewarm on the movie, nevermind negative. It seems that this is a film that is being universally adored by literally everybody.

With a response like this, it's understandable why the embargo would break on the film a full two weeks before it hits theaters. However, it does make it frustrating that we now have to wait two whole weeks to see this apparently stunning product. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which is apparently one of the best movies of the year, will be out December 14.
