How To Watch All The Major 2019 Oscar Nominees

Folks, we've finally made it! The end zone of awards season is upon us, as the 91st Academy Awards have dropped their nominations, and they're as interesting as you'd expect. If you want to see the total list of nominations, you can find them elsewhere. What we're here to discuss is something even more important: how you, the viewing public, can get to see all of this year's nominated films in time for the big show.

Whether you're a home theater buff or you need the scent of fresh popcorn wafting through the air, you're covered with our guide to the best and brightest films 2018 had to offer! So straighten your outfits and prepare your speeches thanking us, as we run through this year's Oscar nominated films and where to find them!

Theatrical Marathon EventsOver the past decade or so, movie theater chains have seriously stepped up their game when it comes to providing the entire nominated class to the public. In particular, AMC Theaters seemed to lead the trend over the course of 13 years. So naturally, its Best Picture Showcase is returning for the 13th consecutive year, which looks to be running in pretty much the same way it's always been run. With that marathon, you can choose to either spread the wealth across the two weekends (February 16th and 23rd) before the Oscars, or if you're daring, you can run the 24 hour marathon in select locations.

However, if you're looking to pace yourself or just see select nominees in the theater, then your best bet is with theater chains like Regal Cinemas or Cinemark. For $35, you can check out as many Best Picture nominees as you want, at any time you want, through a scheduled run that takes you from the middle of February to the end of the month. Regal's marathon runs between February 15th to February 24th, while Cinemark's marathon starts on February 18 and ends on the same day. Though you may want to check the listings of your local locations, as availability through those chains is subject to change.

One final note before we move on: there's one film you will probably not be able to catch in any of these theatrical line-ups: Netflix's Roma. As it turns out, since the film was not previously licensed for theatrical distribution with AMC or Regal, so it will not be included in the Best Picture lineup for either chain. With that out of the way, let's take a look at how you can catch each film individually.

A Star Is BornSynopsis: A country singer (Bradley Cooper) and a rising pop star (Lady Gaga) engage in a romance that puts her on the path to fame, and him on a downward spiral. Is It Still In Theaters: Yes. Despite its initial release last October, A Star Is Born has been brought back to theaters recently to bring in some of that awards season money. When Will It Be Available On Digital HD/Home Video: A Star Is Born is currently available on Digital HD, with 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD releases all dropping on February 19.

Bohemian RhapsodySynopsis: The life and times of Freddie Mercury and Queen are told through musical numbers, video reenactments and a dramatic narrative. Is It Still In Theaters: Yes. Being the monstrous hit that it is, Bohemian Rhapsody has gotten cozy in theaters since its run began last November. When Will It Be Available On Digital HD/Home Video: Bohemian Rhapsody drops on Digital HD today, with 4K/Blu-ray/DVD all set for release on February 12.

Green BookSynopsis: Thrown together by fate, Tony Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen) and Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) take a road trip in the deep South of the 1960s, becoming friends along the way.Is It Still In Theaters: Yes. Green Book still has a theatrical presence, with its initial run starting in mid November. Though the offerings may be limited, so check your local listings carefully. When Will It Be Available On Digital HD/Home Video: The physical release for Green Book will hit 4K/Blu-ray/DVD on March 5, with the Digital HD release set for February 19.

ViceSynopsis: Through decades of service in Washington D.C. politics, Dick Cheney went from power broker to the second most powerful man in town, redefining an era of international relations in the process. Is It Still In Theaters: Yes. Vice opened in theaters on Christmas Day, so there's plenty of shelf life left on the film's theatrical contingent. When Will It Be Available On Digital HD/Home Video: Vice currently does not have a confirmed release date for Digital HD or home video, probably due to it being so close to the film's theatrical release window. As soon as we have that information, we'll update accordingly.

The FavouriteSynopsis: Two women (Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz) duke it out in an escalating rivalry, with the affections of Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) acting as the grand price. Is It Still In Theaters: The Favourite can still be found in some theaters, as it initially opened in limited release late November, with a wide release occurring not too long after. When Will It Be Available On Digital HD/Home Video: The Favourite has no current confirmed release date for Digital HD or physical release. As soon as we have that information, we'll update accordingly.

Black PantherSynopsis: After taking the throne of his native Wakanda, King T'Challa must face the challenges of leadership, and a rogue faction who challenges his right to rule.Is It Still In Theaters: No. Black Panther's record breaking run started last February and ended not too long after Avengers: Infinity War took theaters. When Will It Be Available On Digital HD/Home Video: Black Panther is currently available on Digital HD, as well as physical 4K/Blu-ray/DVD release. It is also available for streaming through Netflix.

BlacKkKlansmanSynopsis: Based on the true story of Ron Stallworth and Flip Zimmerman's infiltration into the Ku Klux Klan, Black Klansman tells the story of one of the most outrageous sting operations ever.Is It Still In Theaters: No. Black KkKlansman started its theatrical run in August, so the film is well outside of its typical theatrical run. When Will It Be Available On Digital HD/Home Video: BlacKkKlansman is currently available for streaming on Digital HD, as well as in a physical release on 4K/Blu-ray/DVD.

RomaSynopsis: A slice of life in 1970's Mexico, Roma tells the story of Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio), a housemaid for a family going through tumultuous times in a chaotic period of their nation's history. Is It Still In Theaters: If you want to see Roma on the big screen, you'll want to check your listings carefully. Netflix has released the film in a limited theatrical run, which will more than likely be at your local art-house cinema. When Will It Be Available On Digital HD/Home Video: Roma is currently streaming on Netflix, with no immediate plans of a physical release.

So there you have it. A field of eight of 2018's most notable films, ready for you the eager public to devour. Don't forget to check local theater listings and read the fine print on those film festival packages very carefully. Otherwise, happy hunting, you golden gods you!

This Rotten Week: Predicting Alita: Battle Angel, Happy Death Day 2U, And Isn't It Romantic Reviews!

This Rotten Week: Predicting Alita: Battle Angel, Happy Death Day 2U, And Isn't It Romantic Reviews!

This weeks slate of big movies releases gives us a high-concept cyberpunk film, a Groundhog Day for horror fans, and a teardown of the rom-com genre. Get ready for Robert Rodriguez's Alita: Battle Angel, Christopher Landon's Happy Death Day 2U and Todd Strauss-Schulson's Isnt it Romantic.

Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at what This Rotten Week has to offer for cinema-goers.

Around 15 years after James Cameron and Co. first started pitching and developing it, Alita: Battle Angel will finally see the light of day. Its a big swing from from producer Cameron, a guy who doesnt like to hit singles. Hes got Robert Rodriguez directing a tech-embracing film about a future in which cyborgs (for lack of a better word) are aplenty and one girl, the last of her kind, is fighting against an evil organization. Theres a lot about Alita that looks awesome visually, but it might not totally land with everyone.

Early sentiment is generally positive, but not to an overwhelming degree. Its sitting 61% through more than 80 reviews. Thats a fairly middling score, all things considered, and I dont expect those stats to tick up at all over the course of the rest of the week. Even the negative reviews dont pan the movie, per se, and do say that there are exciting moments, but that it's all ultimately a bit cluttered. I suspect this may become something of a cult movie if the mainstream folk dont come around.

Happy Death Day (71%) was a pleasant box office surprise when it came out a year and a half ago. It took the Groundhog Day concept into the horror realm with a woman forced to live out her birthday over and over. The twist being that she ends each day by getting murdered by a baby-masked serial killer. Critics were mostly on board with the tongue-in-cheek plot line and storytelling.

Here we get the inevitable sequel in which Jessica Rothe's Tree Gelbmann needs to do the whole thing over again, because now her friends are experiencing the same kind of horrific deja vu. Director Christopher Landon is back after helming the first flick. Hes been a screenwriter on plenty of horror movies, but this series is his first director credits. I cant imagine the second finishes as highly as the first, but the trailer did at least look funny and self-aware of what the joke is.

Imagine hitting your head and waking up in the world of a clichd (and sappy and generic) rom-com? Thats the idea behind Isnt it Romantic. In it, Rebel Wilson despises the romantic comedy genre, but wakes up to find herself living in a world where dance routines break out spontaneously, where men ride around in limos proposing to the protagonist and her apartment is decked out to the nines. Frankly, it looks pretty damn funny.

Director Todd Strauss-Schulson and his creative team have an incredible amount of source material to work from, even without stepping on the toes of They Came Together. They're taking all of the worst aspects of this genre and putting them to work in a story about a woman living through a particular kind of hell. Wilson can carry a movie like this and I like its critical prospects.

Recapping last week: With four movies last time around, we came within range on half of them. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (Predicted: 90% Actual: 84%) fell a bit over the course of the week, but still was a big critical hit. The return to Bricksburg was a successful one and the Phil Lord/ Christopher Miller screenwriting pair just continues to crush it in a way that few other animated film writers can do.

Meanwhile, Cold Pursuit (Predicted: 82% Actual: 74%) also ended up within range. Like I said at the time, it was a good thing there were early reviews in on this thing. Theres no way I would have gone as high with the prediction had some critics not gotten early looks. The comedic element, poking fun at many of the Liam Neeson revenge flicks, worked for reviewers and it ended up certified fresh, where many of Neesons other flicks have not.

The Prodigy (Predicted: 33% Actual: 45%) was a near-miss on the under side. I didnt think it would outright stink, but these kind of family-gone-wrong horror movies do tend to struggle, if usually because they are often so formulaic. (See the opposite with Hereditary.) To be fair, it only has 42 registered reviews in the system. I bet if the entirety of the critical universe went and saw it, my prediction would be much closer.

And finally, I totally whiffed on What Men Want (Predicted: 15% Actual: 47%). Im very surprised on this one. The trailer was a total wreck without a single funny moment, and the premise is tired and worn. Im just kind of shocked this received any positive reviews, but Im clearly mistaken and missed something.

Next time around weve got How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Its gonna be a Rotten Week!

One Step Brothers Scene Adam McKay Wishes Hed Kept In The Movie

One Step Brothers Scene Adam McKay Wishes Hed Kept In The Movie

Adam McKay's Step Brothers turns ten years old this year, which means that it's time to look back on the legacy of the comedy classic. Many of the film's scenes have become memorable in the decade since it hit theaters, but in a recent chat with CinemaBlend, McKay revealed a cut sequence from the original script that he would've kept in retrospect. Specifically, it would've involved Robert (Richard Jenkins) and Nancy (Mary Steenburgen) taking Dale (John C. Reilly) and Brennan (Will Ferrell) to a series of mental health professionals. As McKay explained:

We did have a scene in the movie initially that we cut out of the script before we even shot. It had the parents take them for testing, trying to figure out what was wrong with them. And I did a little bit regret cutting that because I liked the idea that it's like, they're not learning disabled. They're not. There's no cognitive issues. And then it goes to like a psychologist who's like, 'look, as far as I can tell, they just have no reason to want to live.' I always felt like if we had done that, it may shed a little bit more of a light on kind of the underlying point of view of the movie. Like, if we had had that scene in there... but I don't know if I'm quite calling that a regret, because I love the movie the way it turned out. But if there's one little thing, I think that could have been interesting to shoot that.

As the film stands now, it's never fully explained whether or not Dale and Brennan have something legitimately diagnosable that stunts their maturity. This cut scene would've established that Dale and Brennan were mentally and physically able to live normal adult lives, but they simply chose not to on the grounds of laziness and entitlement. Adam McKay obviously made sure to note that he still thinks the film works without those scenes, but he did concede that they would've offered a better "point of view" in hindsight. Of all the changes that could've been made to the movie (one of which included sending Dale and Brennan to Fallujah), this one makes plenty of sense.

All of this stemmed from Adam McKay's desire to tell a story about two men who encapsulate lazy "consumer culture." Elsewhere in his conversation with CinemaBlend, the Anchorman director addressed his core goal with Step Brothers and said:

It was always kind of inspired by this crazy consumer culture we live in where you see grown-ups who collect comics and play video games. To some degree, myself among them. And it's, it's just a thing like, my grandfather, I remember when I was 16 years old and I was reading Frank Miller comics, my grandfather was puzzled. He's just like, 'what are you doing?' My grandfather was in World War II. He boxed, he played football. Like he was just so baffled by it. So that was always one of the ideas about the movie, was that it was like the final product of this consumer culture was these men who never leave home and just are perpetual kids.

On that note, it's still entirely possible that a version of this scene could eventually make its way into the Step Brothers world. Adam McKay and Will Ferrell have talked about doing a sequel for years, and we even recently reported on Ferrell's idea of sending Dale and Brennan to a retirement home to live with their parents in Step Brothers 2. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen, but the basic description of the scene makes it seem like there's potential room for it in another movie.

CinemaBlend will bring you more exclusive content from our chat with Adam McKay in the days to come, so make sure to keep an eye out for all of our Step Brothers anniversary coverage. For now, head over to our 2018 movie premiere guide to see what other films the year has in store. As for McKay, you can check out his latest directorial effort when his Christian Bale-fronted Dick Cheney biopic, Backseat, debuts in December.
