Artist Accusing Disney Of Stealing Solo: A Star Wars Story Poster Designs

Solo: A Star Wars Story is a movie that has had to deal with more than its share of controversy, following a directors shake-up behind the scenes. However, there's another potential problem on the horizon concerning the movie's posters. Artist Hachim Bahous has accused Disney of stealing his design for Sony Music's Legacy Compilation CD covers and using them for the character posters for Solo. According to Bahous,

I am flattered that the quality of my work is recognized, but it is still pure and simple forgery, I have not been asked for my permission, I wish to be credited and paid for this work I have done for Sony!

The character posters were all released recently alongside the first trailer and each is dedicated to a character in the film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. We see Alden Ehrenreich behind the name Solo, Donald Glover as Lando, Emilia Clarke as Qi'ra, and Joonas Suotamo dressed as Chewbacca. Each image is the name of the character, with an image of the character behind it.

By comparison, check out one of the designs for the CD titled Legacy of Funk created by Hachim Bahous, which bears the strongest direct resemblance to the Solo poster above.

It seems that Solo: A Star Wars Story is just a movie destined for controversy. Fans still aren't sure what sort of movie we're going to get following the removal of the films' original directors in the middle of the shooting schedule.

At this point, Disney has yet to publicly respond to the accusation that they stole the design for these movie posters. It's certainly a serious accusation, though there are numerous possibilities for what happened that don't involve outright theft.

Interesting, while writing this story, the original post on Facebook by Hachim Bahous has either been deleted or moved to a private setting, as it's no longer publicly available. The post compared four different Solo posters and four different CD covers to show the similarities.

This story has been receiving a lot of attention since the original post went up and it's possible that Hachim Bahous has decided that he just didn't like the attention, though, one would assume attention was the point when it was first posted. It's possible that Disney and/or Sony has been in touch with him over the last day or so and the situation has been explained and/or dealt with. If there was some sort of settlement reached, removing the original post may have been a condition of it.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, comes of this situation. If it hasn't already reached a resolution then we'll likely hear more of it in the coming days. If it has, it appears that it's being swept under the rug, nothing to see here.

What The New Halloween Had To Get Right About The Iconic Mask

The Halloween franchise has survived so long and become so popular for several reasons, but one of them is undoubtedly the silent remorseless killing machine that is Michael Myers, and more specifically, his look. The new Halloween doesn't acknowledge any of the previous franchise sequels, but it still had a lot to live up to when it came to recreating the famous mask. In an exclusive look at a new special feature attached to the Halloween Blu-ray release, we get a special peek at how the new movie took the time to make sure they recreated the iconic Michael Myers mask perfectly. At this point, the history of where the Michael Myers mask came from is pretty widely known. It was a rubber Halloween mask of William Shatner's Captain James T. Kirk originally, that the first Halloween then modified into the pale white expressionless mask that we all know today. Who knew that Captain Kirk could look so terrifying?

Of course, the new Halloween has to then take a mask that was originally an off the shelf retail product and recreate it. The mask can't simply be something that looks similar to the original. For the purposes of this sequel, it is the exact same mask, so it has to look like it's the exact same mask. For FX makeup designer Christopher Nelson, this means the mask doesn't simply need to have the same expression, it has to look worn and dirty in the same way that the first mask did. According to Nelson...

Approaching the mask had to have the same expression, the way the dirt collected on the nose and the mouth and on the neck and the way it warped specifically. That original mask had an expression of tragedy, of blankness.

In the new Halloween, Michael Myers' mask has been obtained by a podcaster who is looking to cover Myers' rampage of decades ago. When Michael then escapes custody he goes after the podcaster in order to get his property back. needless to say, he does.

This means the mask needs to look not only like it's been well used, but also like it's been sitting around collecting dust for the last few decades. That look had to be created in every detail.

It certainly appears to have worked as James Jude Courtney, the man wearing the mask throughout the new Halloween, says that the mask really changed him. It had an impact on the way he performed, simply putting it on would change the way he was breathing and he would find a side of himself he wasn't previously familiar with.

Halloween is available in Digital HD and can be picked up on Blu-ray starting today.

The Spielberg Classic That Influenced John Krasinskis Work On A Quiet Place

It has been quite a while since a creature feature has generated the level of enthusiasm created by John Krasinski's A Quiet Place, and it has many wondering if it could turn into the horror film to beat this year. The film takes a decidedly old-school approach to the creation of its atmosphere and tension, and Krasinski apparently looked to another classic monster movie to establish his tone. In fact, during a recent interview with A Quiet Place producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, CinemaBlend learned that Krasinski paid particular attention to Steven Spielberg's Jaws in his restrained approach to his film. Form explained:

Creatively, John was always talking about Jaws. From the first conversation we've ever had about the movie, he was referencing that film. We've all learned that, Brad and I have worked on a lot of these genre films, the less you show the scarier. We really talked about when do you show the creature? How much here or there? That scene in the cornfield with Reagan, the daughter, that scene could've been two minutes longer with the two of them. It was really talked about, how much to show.

So, from the very beginning, John Krasinski wanted to take a conservative approach to his work on A Quiet Place. The film was designed to generate tension, and he did that by referring to Steven Spielberg's work on Jaws as a template for withholding the monsters from view. As a result, the film's creatures are rarely seen, and the scenes in which they do appear are intentionally kept short.

Of course, if you have seen Jaws, then you already know what Andrew Form is referring to. The classic horror film/proto-blockbuster has become iconic for its tendency to withhold the shark from view, resulting in famous scenes like the infamous first kill, seen below.

With all of that said, the time does eventually come for A Quiet Place to show the monsters -- just like how Jaws finally revealed the full look at the shark. We don't want to give anything away. You'll see for yourself what happens. On that note, Andrew Form continued in our interview and explained how landing on a proper look for the creatures presented a challenge due to the number of designs that already exist in pop culture, such as the Alien Xenomorph. Form elaborated:

The design of the creature was definitely the hardest part of it. Luckily, we had ILM on the movie, who to us, are one of the best in the world, and we just kept challenging ourselves, because everyone will always say to you, 'Everything's been done. What's your creature look like?' How do you do anything new anymore, with the amount of movies that have been made? So you have these artists drawing designs and everyone looks at them and they're like 'No, that looks like Alien or that looks like this, that looks like that,' and it's really a challenge to come up with something fresh and new. We did have the sound element, which was our big deal. The hearing and the ears were the most important part of these creatures. Very late in the design process, the design of the creature actually happened and ILM, I'm sure, wishes it was six months earlier but we definitely were struggling with the design and are wildly happy with the way it came out.
